Baseball: Eagles Fall 1-0 in Classic Pitchers’ Duel with Toccoa Falls

In a game that featured two high-scoring offenses, a classic pitchers' duel ensued, and the South Region rivals played to a 1-0 final. Toccoa Falls College got that run in the fourth, and a tremendous catch on the game's final play fended off TBC Eagles Baseball's comeback effort to secure the win.

Stellar pitching from five men on both sides included TBC's Jacob Brigman, who had his best start of his fantastic season. Brigman pitched 7 innings, allowing only an unearned run on 2 hits while walking 3 and striking out 7. He allowed multiple base runners only once and had three 1-2-3 frames.

Andrew Mohler pitched the final two innings and was just as effective. Mohler allowed only 1 hit and 1 walk and fanned 2, including the final man he faced in the top of the ninth.

Toccoa starter Ashton Sapp pitched 6 hitless, scoreless innings, and two relievers, Hunter Tatum and Josh Ramey, combined for 3 innings, 2 hits, 2 walks, and 1 strikeout.

Toccoa scored in the fourth after Charlie Compton led off with a base hit. He advanced on a bunt single and eventually scored on a miscue off a ground ball for the game's lone run. Compton also came up huge in the field at the end of the game.

In the bottom of the ninth, Trinity loaded the bases with two outs. Gavin Williams drove one high and deep into a 13-mph wind in the right-center field gap, allowing Compton to make the one-handed catch on the sprint up against the fence to end the game.

The game's five pitchers allowed only 4 hits and 1 unearned run combined.

The teams will play twice on Saturday with the first pitch scheduled for 12:00 noon. Trinity Baptist will then host the South Region's Paine College on Friday and Saturday, April 4 and 5. The three remaining series afterward are all at home between April 12 and 26.
