Women’s Soccer: Pittman Named South Region Coach of the Year

TCJ Eagles Women's Soccer head coach Alexa Pittman capped off her third season with one of biggest individual honors a coach can earn. Pittman was named the NCCAA Division 2 South Region Women's Soccer Coach of the Year.

Coach Pittman led her Eagles to a 6-5-3 regular-season record against some of the toughest NCCAA, NAIA, NJCAA, and NCAA Division 3 teams in the Southeast. Although they did not win the South Region Tournament, the Eagles played so well during the season that they earned an at-large bid to the NCCAA Division 2 National Championship Tournament.

At the end of the regular season on October 28, the Eagles were ranked #4 in the nation and had rankings in the Top 10 in 4 major statistical categories as a team: total shots (4th), shots on goal (5th), goals scored (5th), and fewest goals allowed (3rd). Goalkeeper Katianna Grace was in the top 10 in five main categories: save percentage (3rd), fewest goals (3rd), fewest goals allowed per game (4th), saves (6th), and saves per game (9th).

During the season, the Eagles peaked as the nation's #2 team in multiple NCCAA Division 2 weekly rankings.

Coach Pittman discussed her team's camaraderie and performance: "From the very beginning of the season, I knew this group was something special," she said. "The way the Lord brought these girls to Trinity was, in itself, divine intervention. We started the year strong and we have faced more adversity than most teams ever have to, yet every challenge drew us closer together and pushed us deeper into our dependence on Christ."

About her team's resolve through some tough situations, Coach Pittman added, "I have been in awe of the strength, grit, and resilience these girls have shown all season long. I knew this team was special, and I am grateful others recognized it as well."  The team looks forward to competing for a national championship. "We are incredibly thankful for this at-large bid and the opportunity to lace up our boots again. This team still has plenty of fight left in them."

TCJ Eagles athletic director John D. Jones expressed his joy in Coach Pittman's honor.  "Alexa has worked extremely hard to build a program of excellence here at TCJ, and she has done it the right way," he said. "It's gratifying to see that her fellow head coaches in the NCCAA South Region have formally recognized what I have known since I hired her three years ago. Being named the South Region Coach of the Year is a well-deserved honor, and we could not be more excited to see her and the team represent Trinity College of Jacksonville on the national stage."

Coach Pittman's award did not come alone. Joining her in postseason honors were eight All-Region players. Kira Goodwin, Gina Bido, Lucy Rife, and Ayla Buckley made the All-Region first team.

Katianna Grace, Camila Lopez, Kalli Robinson, and Taylor McCrory were named All-Region second team.

Coach Pittman played soccer for Trinity from 2015-2019; she was the first student athlete ever to sign with what was then a brand new Eagles women's soccer program. After graduation, she coached Baldwin High School girls soccer for four years; she turned a 1-win team into an 11-win district contender before returning to Trinity to begin her college coaching career. She is now competing for a national championship.

Congratulations to Alexa Pittman, the 2025 South Region Women's Soccer Coach of the Year.
